International Cancer Survivor Symposium
The International Cancer Survivor Symposium took place for the first time on 3 February 2022. The one-day online event, which was co-financed by Childhood Cancer Switzerland, provided the opportunity for national and international experts in the field of follow-up care to swap experiences. Primary care doctors, adult and paediatric oncologists, researchers, psychologists and other health professionals were all connected online. Key lectures and short presentations presented central topics such as late effects, follow-up care and chronic diseases, fatigue, psychosocial aspects and fertility. Thanks to the international symposium, awareness of the follow-up care issue was once again raised. The approximately 160 participants from Switzerland and abroad gained important insights into current and future-oriented research studies, were able to find out about best practice examples and discuss topics together.
The virtual event was presented from Bern. The Head of our Survivors’ Centre, Zuzana Tomášiková, chaired the opening session on site together with Prof. Jochen Rössler (MD), Head of Pediatric Oncology / Hematology at Bern University Hospital and Member of the Board at Childhood Cancer Switzerland. The symposium was organised by the Clinic for General Internal Medicine and the Clinic for Paediatrics as well as the Tumour Centre at Bern University Hospital, the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) at the University of Bern and the Department of Health Sciences and Medicine at the University of Lucerne.
The symposium was held in English. The keynote speeches were recorded and are available here.
